Award-Winning Documentary Featuring MetroHealth Available for Streaming through April 21

On April 7, MetroHealth had the honor of celebrating the premiere of “American Delivery” at the Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF). This powerful film examines the nation's maternal mortality crisis and the nurses working to solve it. The documentary, which received the Roxanne T. Mueller Audience Choice Award for Best Film, is now available to watch through CIFF STREAMS through Sunday, April 21.

The film highlights MetroHealth’s dedication to maternal and infant health. It features MetroHealth President and CEO Airica Steed, Ed.D., RN, MBA, FACHE – a fourth-generation nurse – and MetroHealth’s Nurse-Family Partnership, which pairs nurses with pregnant patients throughout their pregnancies and until their children's second birthday.

“American Delivery” is geo-restricted to Ohio-only viewing. Geo-restrictions are based on the viewer's current location (and IP address) while streaming and are not determined by the viewer's primary address or residency.

The MetroHealth System has appointed Srinivas Merugu, MD, FACP, MMM, CPE, to lead its nationally recognized Institute for H.O.P.E.²™, which works to achieve health equity by identifying and addressing factors beyond medical care that impact the health and well-being of patients and the broader community. MetroHealth Program 'Prescribes' Creative Expression as a Treatment for Loneliness

Knowing the powerful impact engaging with the arts has on mental health and loneliness, The MetroHealth System’s Center for the Arts in Health launched ArtsRx, a pilot project that allows providers to “prescribe” arts activities and experiences for their patients. The project, funded through a $16,578 ArtsNEXT grant from the Ohio Arts Council, links patients with opportunities for creative expression led by local artists and arts organizations. Patients can participate in as many activities as they would like during the pilot period, which runs through May 12. And it’s all free.
Spotlight: Black Maternal Health Week

Black women in Ohio are nearly three times more likely to die in childbirth than their white peers; their odds of experiencing severe complications during pregnancy and delivery are almost double. At MetroHealth, we are intent on confronting the systems, processes and biases behind that shocking and unacceptable reality.

Black Maternal Health Week, April 11-17, is an opportunity to highlight this crisis and MetroHealth's work to bring about critical change. Over the weekend, MetroHealth co-sponsored the first Black Maternal Health Equity Summit with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine's Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative. Throughout the year, MetroHealth is a national model for ending health inequity by making high-quality healthcare accessible to all with the goal of eliminating the glaring gap in life expectancies and eradicating the maternal health crisis.
